Sport manuwatu hockey

On Tuesday we traveled to Palmerston north to the twin turfs for an exhilarating game of hockey.
As the Sport Manuwatu organised many events for us, Term 1 Soccer, Term 2 was Cricket, Term 3 was Hockey. Our lessons were taught by Stephan, the coach of the marist first 15. He taught us how to dribble, Push pass and tackle. We played lots of games and ended up with a Oroua school tournament at the hockey turf in palmy! The teams battled out in a mix of schools. The turf was cold and wet, sent quivers down my spine. The ball was flying highhhhhhhhhhh like a bird as two sticks collided. The Artificial turf swayed in the cold breeze.Geared up in a giant teddy bear outfit. He padded up so that he could hit the balls coming towards him. As a cold day cleared up the rain slowly pitter pattered on the roof.

Vocabulary enrichment

It was a cold frosty morning and I felt sluggish but knew I had to rise to the occasion.
As it was nearly time to start an aggressive game of netball on a cold Saturday morning.

Commonwealth games at Cheltenham

As Friday slowly arises we were all nearly ready to go, The school travelled to Cheltenham school for some exciting commonwealth games activities. We competed in many events such as high jump, gymnastics, shot put, discus, archery and of course sprints! The year 7 & 8 group had a competitive elimination sprint off. Starting with 9 and ending with 1. It had come down to the final race. The race for survival happened fast and swiftly. They had a sprint for the title of commonwealth fastest.
It was a great day to give us the chance to meet and compete against Cheltenham students. A rush of excitement was inside my veins as we were about to finish the day with some refreshing relays!

speech 2014

“We realize the importance of our voices only when we are silenced
A Quote from Malala yousafzai,
  a strong inspirational girl.
I am going to tell you who she is and why she is who she is.

She was born in 1997 in Mingora Pakistan.
Her home town was a popular tourist place and threw great summer festivals.
She attended a school that her father  founded after the Taliban began attacking girls schools and education. Her education ran smoothly until......
The Taliban who believed that girls shouldn't have an education started to mold the area and tried to make it there own and take control over it.
How would that feel the place you loved knew and cared about, taken over by new comers who think they're so powerful?

point 2

Malala started a protest for girls education. From where she came from it was a not common thing. Actually most people were scared of what was going to happen. They were scared of the Taliban!
When she was young she became and advocate for girls education. She started up a blog and to protect her identity she used a fake name witch was Gul makai. She started blogging about how she thought girls should have the same education rights as men. That's fair isn't it! Malala started to get lots of followers and people who thought the same. Imagine having a blog against some one and knowing the risks that come with it but she still stood up for what she thought was right.
When Malala was 14, her family learned that the Taliban had issued a death threat against her. Malala was frighened for her father as he was an anti-Taliban-Activist. She and her family were pretty certain that they wouldn't harm a child.
But little did they know ... on October the 9th 2012 on her way to school a man boarded her school bus. The Man shouted and demanded to know which child was Malala. All her friends looked at her. Her identity was given away . The gunman fired at her hitting her in the head, the bullet travelled down her neck. There were also 2 other girls who got injured.
She was flown to military hospital and needed major treatment. Her life was in a critical condition. Some of her skull was removed so that they could treat her swelling brain. She was lucky to survive with no brain injuries.  Although she has struggled and been through a hard time she sent a message to the world. She stood up for all girls and their right to education.

conclusion
And the world listened. In March she attended a school in Birmingham. She reminded everyone that changes can be made.
She has been recognized for her achievements and was rewarded by being nominated for the noble peace prize in March 2013. Also in acknowledgment of her work, the European parliament awarded her the Sakharov prize for freedom of thought.
Malala has inspired me because she fought for what she believed in even when the consequences are life or death matters.  Malala has proved to everyone that age and size don't matter. If you believe you can make a difference.
