Year 7-8 camp

I struggle my way out of the car and stack all of my gear outside. Nikki and I debated where to put our tent but when we finally came to a decision we quickly whipped it up.
The poles click together just like a jigsaw. I clench a tight grip on the tent and we slide the poles swiftly down each side of the tent.
When everyone is prepared for the night we settle down next to the cold hard black fire pit. The charcoal from the last fire lay on the ground. We smothered wood over the top of flames bellowing out of the ground. Everyone had decided  that while we cooked our food we would go for a swim.
As we arrive down to the fast flowing water we realise it is too strong. Jim and I wandered up the river against the current. I stand there with my legs shaking and purple and my hands as numb as bricks. Soon when it had got too cold we wandered back to the campsite where chef  Zac stood there by the fire cooking our food.
In no time we were all huddled around the nice warm fire defrosting and eating our billy stew. The wind blew softly which made the smoke blow into our faces.
soon as we had finished we all ran over to the middle of the field and played spotlight.

10/11/2014 Murder Mystery

Part 1

23 hours left in the day 6 to get away from the cops and the rest, well i don't know what to do with my time. I live my life running away from the cops and sitting by myself wondering how I stuffed my life up so bad. I rest on the garden tools that are surrounding me in a strangers garden shed which at the moment i call home. Days just fly by right in front of my eyes. Meanwhile I figit through my pockets to grab out my phone. I check the date and my grin just faded away. I felt as if I had just melted. How could this happen I am sitting in an old garden shed while my Aunty and Mum celebrate there birthday they are probably worried sick about me. I missed there birthday because of people accusing me of the murder of my father. I remember the night vividly as if it were yesterday, dad and I wandered down to the dairy to get some bread and milk. We were happily minding our own business when a man in Beliclaver pounced on my dad out of nowhere. I screamed in horror as the man held my dad pinned heavily on the ground. All I could think about was what do in self defense, So I  grabbed the man by the neck and and tried to shake if of my dads still body. My hands dripping with blood, I called the cops. But as soon as I had dialed 11 the man had scampered off. The cops pulled up outside the surrounded building. They took one look at my dad and said I'm sorry son but your father has passed. I filled up with tears. But i didn't have time to wobble away as the cops were questioning me  about what had happened. I explained it all exactly as it happened. /
The man was a sneaky pro and had left no trace which made it harder for me to give proof. The cops didn't believe me about the blood on my hands and said that it matched the marks on my dad. I pleaded and said about the man jumping on him and how i tried to get him of but it wasn't enough and they drove me down to the station. But know you are probably wondering how did i end up in a garden shed. Well to explain it simple I made a runner at the station. I began to tear up again at the thought of loosing my best friend my dad  but i didn't know which pain was worse dad being gone or the pitch fork that was stabbing me in the back. /
Somehow I had to find out the secret that lay beneath the attack and to find out who that man was!

Part 2

My Thoughts deepened as I grief about my dad. The part that saddened me the most was the fact that my mum didn't believe me when I told her i didn't do it. Flash backs zip through my mind of the night. " am I the only one that knows i didn't do it" I thought in my head. But then I think about the man that actually did it. I am going to track him down and get the pay back he deserves. I know it will b hard for an 18 year old to kill someone but i know it will be possible. What he had to my dad was teranic and unrepayable. I was going to get even with him even if i die doing that./
Suddenly I hear sirens in the faint distance. Blue and Red colors circle around the area. I suddenly change into Panic mode, I creep slowly out the cracked window. The shattered glass just sweeps softly over my uncovered calf muscles. I hide my head lowly under cover of my hoddie. It seem that the position I am in now is nearly the same every week. Me running and the cops chasing after me. Every part of my body froze. Turned my head towards the cops. They were shoving my mother into a prison car. How could they accuse her of the murder when she wasn't even in the country when it happened. My first instinct was to go over there and hand myself in but i knew that wasn't going to happen. I scrambled  back to my hideout. I dived through my bag searching for some food, But i knew i didn't have any:( /
I constantly thought about my mum getting taken away. I was just hopping that she was going to be ok. Suddenly I heard foot steps coming on the right of the shed. I panicked. Now i could hear voices. It was summer so I think that the owners were coming o get some tools to do some gardening.  I slowly creeped yet again out of the cracked window. But this time it doesn't sweep softly over my leg. The glass pinched inside my leg. Blood started swiftly rushing out of my leg. I held my arm tightly over the glass. I know some bad things about being on the run you cant go to hospital when you need to.

skiing 2014

As we drive up the windy track of forest I can just see a faint glimps of the Mountain ahead! After I weave my way through the crowded rental place I find my way out to the cold Mushey Mountain. The sun shimmers onto the cold wet blanket of snow down beneath. Click .... Click as my ski's bind into the hard ski buckles. The White glossy powder slush's around as my ski's glide down the mountain. The wind travelles behind you nudging you as you fly down the tall mountain. My long ski's follow my lead as I parallel ski down. I was practicing doing wide s turns down the hill to help slow me down. Charlotte and I hop straight onto the chairlift. It feels like you are floating when it takes you away up high. We jump of in a rush and push our way over to our lesson!

Lorde Essay

Ella Yellich-O Conner (AKA) Lorde was born on November the 7th 1996 in Takapuna. She was raised in The big city Auckland. She was brought up in a family of 6 with 2 sisters and 1 brother. She is now 17 she started singing in earlier years. Her mother was a poet and they had heaps of books and Lorde said, "Poetry has always been a big thing for me, arguably more so then music" but it didn't stop there. She made her poetry useful for other things and she won her Annual School Talent Contest at the age of 12. She sang a rock song by Ritchie Blackmore!  Her performance was then sent to Record Producers. They were amazed at what talent the young girl had and decided that they would love to work with her. She is a very inspiring person because she is young and talented. Lorde has inspired me because I am trying to do the same thing I am in shows and writing my own songs, but I don't live in a family of 6!!

When she writes her songs she trys to put meaning into them.
She loves to inspire others with her songs. Her main goal in her songs is to tell people to believe in themselves! I love her song 'Tennis court'. When you listen to it you would think it is just a song with wacky lyrics but really it is telling you a message! She writes songs about things that can inspire people. Her song Tennis Court was released on the 8th of June. Her song was played during the BBC sport coverage of the 2013 Wimbledon Championships - Women singles final!  In her song 'Team' she included what she lived like as a child
"We live in cities you'll never see on screen
Not very pretty but we sure know how to run free
Livin' in ruins of the palace within my dreams
And you know we're on each other's team"
Lorde is inspiring to me because she started music at such a young age and kept at it. With her hard work ethic she has won 19 awards and been nominated for 56!! She was awarded song of the year for her song, 'Royals', and also Best Vocal Performance, These awards she got in 2014.
Lorde has inspired young children to follow their dreams and that your age doesn't matter. If you want to be a successful singer you need to be hard working and be able to handle what ever challenges rise ahead of you! Lorde writes her own songs. Of course she has a team that could help her but she prefers to write them herself to show that she is really Lorde!

In her song 'Royals', she is telling everybody that they should be proud of who they are and not to try be anybody else.  Lorde likes to describe herself as naturally her. Lorde says that she is sick of women covering themselves with make up. Lorde likes to wear nothing but her own skin. When she does preform she wears not much; only black lipstick and eyeliner to show that that is who she likes to be!
Lorde had a hard time with people bullying her online about her being true to herself. People were saying that she was ugly with her pimples. But Lorde stood strong for what she believed in and she knew it couldn't last forever. But also she had lots of people who were proud of her and were congratulating her for believing in herself!
What she believes is that she doesn't like to cover up the real Lorde.  Lorde being herself can inspire many, I am one of many, because it is very good to be true to yourself and Lorde knows that she can set an example for others! I am going to try follow in her foot steps and be who I want to be because anyone can be anything or anyone they want to be.

Netball season

This Year Apiti, Colyton and Bunnythorpe combined to put in an intermediary grade Netball team.
This was a great experience to meet and play with other year 7&8 students. An example of this was at one of our games we all learnt how to play as a team and use everybody skills and because of that we won 28-6.
I found it a useful way to show my netball skills and meet new people. I thought that we all settled to each other as a team very well. Everyone had their own skills and everyone learnt to play the same game. It was great to try a variety of different positions!
We started being down there and still working on team play to being way up there and reading the game properly. My favourite position to play was GD because my height came into good use there. It took us a couple of weeks to develop strategies but when we did we were on fire. It was great to try a different mixed team!

Sport manuwatu hockey

On Tuesday we traveled to Palmerston north to the twin turfs for an exhilarating game of hockey.
As the Sport Manuwatu organised many events for us, Term 1 Soccer, Term 2 was Cricket, Term 3 was Hockey. Our lessons were taught by Stephan, the coach of the marist first 15. He taught us how to dribble, Push pass and tackle. We played lots of games and ended up with a Oroua school tournament at the hockey turf in palmy! The teams battled out in a mix of schools. The turf was cold and wet, sent quivers down my spine. The ball was flying highhhhhhhhhhh like a bird as two sticks collided. The Artificial turf swayed in the cold breeze.Geared up in a giant teddy bear outfit. He padded up so that he could hit the balls coming towards him. As a cold day cleared up the rain slowly pitter pattered on the roof.

Commonwealth games at Cheltenham

As Friday slowly arises we were all nearly ready to go, The school travelled to Cheltenham school for some exciting commonwealth games activities. We competed in many events such as high jump, gymnastics, shot put, discus, archery and of course sprints! The year 7 & 8 group had a competitive elimination sprint off. Starting with 9 and ending with 1. It had come down to the final race. The race for survival happened fast and swiftly. They had a sprint for the title of commonwealth fastest.
It was a great day to give us the chance to meet and compete against Cheltenham students. A rush of excitement was inside my veins as we were about to finish the day with some refreshing relays!

speech 2014

“We realize the importance of our voices only when we are silenced
A Quote from Malala yousafzai,
  a strong inspirational girl.
I am going to tell you who she is and why she is who she is.

She was born in 1997 in Mingora Pakistan.
Her home town was a popular tourist place and threw great summer festivals.
She attended a school that her father  founded after the Taliban began attacking girls schools and education. Her education ran smoothly until......
The Taliban who believed that girls shouldn't have an education started to mold the area and tried to make it there own and take control over it.
How would that feel the place you loved knew and cared about, taken over by new comers who think they're so powerful?

point 2

Malala started a protest for girls education. From where she came from it was a not common thing. Actually most people were scared of what was going to happen. They were scared of the Taliban!
When she was young she became and advocate for girls education. She started up a blog and to protect her identity she used a fake name witch was Gul makai. She started blogging about how she thought girls should have the same education rights as men. That's fair isn't it! Malala started to get lots of followers and people who thought the same. Imagine having a blog against some one and knowing the risks that come with it but she still stood up for what she thought was right.
When Malala was 14, her family learned that the Taliban had issued a death threat against her. Malala was frighened for her father as he was an anti-Taliban-Activist. She and her family were pretty certain that they wouldn't harm a child.
But little did they know ... on October the 9th 2012 on her way to school a man boarded her school bus. The Man shouted and demanded to know which child was Malala. All her friends looked at her. Her identity was given away . The gunman fired at her hitting her in the head, the bullet travelled down her neck. There were also 2 other girls who got injured.
She was flown to military hospital and needed major treatment. Her life was in a critical condition. Some of her skull was removed so that they could treat her swelling brain. She was lucky to survive with no brain injuries.  Although she has struggled and been through a hard time she sent a message to the world. She stood up for all girls and their right to education.

conclusion
And the world listened. In March she attended a school in Birmingham. She reminded everyone that changes can be made.
She has been recognized for her achievements and was rewarded by being nominated for the noble peace prize in March 2013. Also in acknowledgment of her work, the European parliament awarded her the Sakharov prize for freedom of thought.
Malala has inspired me because she fought for what she believed in even when the consequences are life or death matters.  Malala has proved to everyone that age and size don't matter. If you believe you can make a difference.
“I raise my voice not so that i can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard”

Writing sample 2014

I usually don't like staying at my Aunty and Uncles, but this time i am very excited because I was soon to have another baby cousin. I arrived at there Tall brick house already feeling gloomy, as I dragged myself into there brown door. I was surprised to not have any small body's bouncing around me. Instead there was complete silence. Suddenly there was a small wail that came from the new baby's room. I was Confused because the baby wasn't due till Friday and it was only Wednesday. I wander into the quiet  still room Peering over the tall crib rails I see a small still Body. Gorgeous Green eyes, soft cheeks and Golden blonde hair. wrapped in a puffy soft blanket. Firstly i was surprised and glad then my Aunty came in and mumbled "this is your new baby cousin Bridget" I then was nearly screaming With happiness because I finally a baby girl cousin. The small eyelids sparkle in the reflection of the sun, she was a beautiful as a butterfly. After one year I go and stay with Aunty and Uncle. Now I wasn't feeling so dull and gloomy because i had a special little girl to play with. Her beautiful gummy mouth scoffed down a mashed mushy banana. As Bridget grows older her cheeks get more chubby she almost looks as if she is saving a hole watermelon for later. Pre school years were great for her she grew more intelligent and wise, But of course now she can have help from her two older brothers. Jonty 4 years older dark silky brown hair green eyes that softly flicker in the wind. Hugo 2 years older has soft white hair nearly as bright as snow! two gorgeous brothers to look up to plus she has a caring and loving family, Also i forgot to tell you She is going to be a big sister next year.

Hannah camp story whanau responsibility

We all clamber onto the large boat and seat ourselves at the back so we can listen to what the captain has to say ... like the rules! Soon enough we were putting along on the Wellington harbour. We were observing the life around us as we slowly drifted past the city itself.
After we were more in the center of the water we were allowed to climb onto the front bow of the boat so that we could look out in front. We pulled in so close to a water fountain that it was pouring over top of us. The driver was laughing as all the parents rushed back inside and all the kids were hanging off the side trying to get as much water on them as possible.
The boat was large with two wide sides with steps to walk out onto the bow, It had thick black stripes that made the boat look more powerful. We were actually going really slowly but it felt fast.
About half way through the cruise all the kids lunged to the captain's wheel. I wanted to go see what all the fuss was about. I arrived there and everyone was in a line to drive. We were going in circles because the fountain had wet the windscreen so they couldn't see where they were going. Damian was sitting in the high seat. Its step was a beer crate so that the little ones could climb onto the tall seat!
As we travelled along the waterfront we were amazed at how many people were walking along looking for a place to eat. We glided past the Wagamama, which was the place we were going to eat dinner at.
Soon we had seen so many boats in the water that people were dibsing what boats they were going to get. The big rescue boats were my favorite. They were red all over with big life rafts hanging off the side, a small scope at the front to see where the boat was that they needed to help and lots of ropes! It would be very cool if one day we all had a walk around and got to look at all the amazing stuff in there; even better if someone that I knew worked in the boat! It would have been very cool if the boat was going today and it was putting just around the waterfront.
In a while we were floating by (the small boat parking lot). There was a bright orange dingy drifting on the top of the water. It was slowly bouncing up and down. Small boats were all around us and we drifted past them all. I was amazed at how many people like to drift around on the water and just scope out the scenery!
Soon we were back at the beginning of the harbour. We all zipped out and sprinted over to Wagamama to have a good feed!

Hannah's Camp story fav part

As we split into two groups peoples teeth starting to chatter with fear. Screams come out of the dark room. Minutes later two men stumble out and say, “Kids that was not scary” sarcastically.
We wander into the dark filled room find our seats, strap on our seatbelts and get prepared for what is to come. We were about to ride the NZ simulator. Tension filled the air as no one knew what was about to happen.
What a surprise when our chairs started rocking back and forth and completely losing the bottom of the chair attachment. We were driving our ute down to the farm. As we went over a bump our chairs completely bounced up and then fell back down.  There were girls riding their bikes. Then I realised that it was us riding our bikes because then we crashed and we all nearly flopped out of our chairs. Soon we were sliding down a hill on a sled and we were going fast. Then suddenly another kid comes and rams us from behind. We stop and then fall out of our sled! It felt so real I thought we were actually doing all of that stuff! It made my tummy feel like it had butterflies because we were rocking up down round and round. You literally didn't know where you were going to go next!
Suddenly it came to a halt. Our legs still felt rocky but the ride was over. Everyone was floating out of their seats. We clambered out the door.
That was certainly the best ride I had ever been on but that wasn't all! There was still the underwater submarine simulator to come! As we wandered back to the center, coming out of the  other ride everyone was jumping and shouting how great it was but I knew in my head it wasn't going to be as great as the other one!
Firstly we get our seat. We find it relaxing so we put our feet up. It was quite a calming ride. Then suddenly we crashed into the bottom of the ocean but it still wasn't as scary as the NZ ride. We pounded out and stagger back to the centre to meet again. The room filled with excitement as everyone was trying to say how great the ride was and what their favourite bit was.
The rides were quite fun. I wish we could do them again! I think it was an excellent part of the museum because if there are tourists who want to get a taste of New Zealand the NZ simulator is a perfect way!

Triathlon 2014

I wake up stranded on my bed, My legs starting to feel vigorous.
I arrive at school my brain is trying to remember every single minor detail of the course!
More people arriving time is creeping closer to my race.
I double cheek that my bike was in the correct place, I have learnt before to double cheek because one year I forgot to put my bike there, That is a good lesson to learn because you certainly learn after doing it ONCE!
I was feeling very nervous because I had lots of good competition.
I wandered over to the start line and prepared to have the race of my life.
Legs pumping with excitement, My arms are already exhausted because they were trying so hard to keep me calm.
( Ready Set GO) I was already running as fast as a Mantis shrimp striking its prey.
I have learnt to try and keep up with others in the run. As we got onto our second lap it had separated to Chloe and I in front!
My Goal was to get on the bike faster then her. We arrived at the transition I clipped my helmet on as fast as a rocket and was off!
I came to my second lap and was starting to get tiered, but I didn't let that stop me I had a convincing lead and I wasn't about to let that go.
Zooming around the corner I was nearly at the gate, I clunked my bike down softly onto the ground and zipped of my shirt and shoes and was off like agent P on a very heart thumping mission!
Floping into the pool I was creating more of a gap between me and Chloe, Quickly I was out of the pool and sprinting to the finish line.
A big sigh of relief came out as I was glad it was over and done with I waited a minute to cheer on Chloe running for her life to come second.
I was very proud of myself for coming first running isn't my favorite thing we;ll none of it is but I tried my hardest and that is what counts.
I was just terrified as I knew the day wasn't over!
Huntah was at the start line, Zahn was on his Bike and I was standing at the gate.
In the blink of an eye Huntah and the rest of his competition was off. Two laps went very fast as he was nearly done, Soon Zahn was on his bike away.
My heart was just about jumping out of my chest as I was dying to no who was gonna come in first on there bike!
(sisperatingly) waiting for Zahn to come in was not calm at all!
Soon Zahn was coming in I Dart over to him slap his hand and I was away like a scurrying mouse with cheese.
Again I was back in the pool the strength of the clorine was detriment.
I scrambled out of the pool and Huntah and Zahn were waiting to run to the finish line together away we went sprinting to the finish line another first we took!
I achieved my Goal very well it was to keep up with everyone in the run and I was coming second in the run!

Apiti show poem 2014

I slip my togs on
Butterflies creep into my stomach
I race to the start line
More kids eager to compete

Legs pumping as fast as a hippity hoppity hare
Hot breath heaving on the back of my neck
Clutters of kids
I feel like I am about to collapse

Punching the pedals
Wheels spinning like a Ferris wheel
Legs start to feel like a boiling thermos
Now I feel yearning to finish

Arms flying round like spastic wind mills
Bubbles breaching the surface
I feel like a sea sick fish now
Cheering echoes under the water

Legs stumble down
Arms become jelly
Good feeling to be finished
Hard work
Finishing a triathlon

Karen in Karen world

Part 1

Chickens from far and wide had all gathered in Karen world today. It was international Karen cross the road day! A huge cluck applause as the Ginger and White Chicken came zooming out of out of a tunnel. I don't quit know what they are saying because I don't speak chicken. Karens legs are long and orange her tail is white and poofy, her long beak is a tad crooked. every chicken gathers round. Karens foot slowly wanders across the road the room fills with cheer  all the chickens wings were flapping with supersonic speed. Soon all the chickens were crossing the road. Karen was wandering back to her coop when Kevin and Bob stopped her in her tracks.
" hey great performance Karen" exclaimed Kevin
" Yeah" said Bob
" Thanks it was nothing"
Karen then kept on her way. Her tall coop made out of straw was waiting for her. It was 2.6 meters high and what Karen called home!

Part 2
